Sam Allardyce has already signed defender Jan Kirchhoff on an 18-month deal, striker Dame N'Doye on loan and veteran keeper Steve Harper so far this window but he wants another defender and striker as Sunderland battle the drop.

The club's chief target is Swansea City forward Andre Ayew, but officials have again stressed he is not for sale.

Swansea have also confirmed they haven't received a fresh bid despite reports Sunderland had lodged a £10million offer plus Fabio Borini for Ayew.
