'Proud Mackem' Aly Dixon wears Sunderland shirt with pride at Rio Olympics

The 37-year-old who finished 28th in the Rio 2016 women's marathon event last week, is still in Brazil taking in some of the action, with Team GB currently second in the medal table.

Wearing this season's SAFC home shirt, big Sunderland fan Aly tweeted: "You can take the girl out of Sunderland... #hawaythelads #lovesunderland #proudmackem"

The Sunderland Stroller made her now familiar ‘Borini’ celebration as she crossed the finishing line for the marathon with a time of 2:34:36.

She finished two places ahead of GB team-mate Sonia Samuels.

The race was won by Jemima Sumgong in 2:24:4 - the first time a Kenyan has won the gold medal in the women’s Olympic marathon.

Eunice Kirwa of Bahrain was second with Mare Dibaba of Ethiopia claim ing bronze.

The conditions were not kind - bright and sunny, humid and about 80 degrees.
