Callum Bunney and Johnathon Harker, both 19, and from Peterlee, and Lewis McDonald, 20, from Seaham, took part in a project on behalf of Durham County Council’s Area Action Partnership (AAP) to create a video on the commemorative plaque ceremony for Victoria Cross winner Thomas Kenny.

The plaque was placed in Wheatley Hill in remembrance of Private Kenny, who served in the First World War and received the VC for his ‘conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty’.

The students worked alongside a team from ITV Tyne Tees to produce the video, and visited County Hall to talk to a panel about the process.

They were then given a tour of the building.

Lecturer in creative industries, Billy Nicholson, said: “It was an amazing opportunity for these three students to work alongside industry professionals and get a feel of what it’s like to put together a real news report video. “
