'Use your voice' - Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall urges fans to vote in General Election as she pledges support for Labour

The Woman Like Me singer tweeted on the eve of the election, which is taking place on Thursday, December 12, urging her fans to “have a say” in the future of their country and vote.

Alongside her message, in which she also called on young people to use their voices, she posted with a T-shirt bearing the slogan “for the many, not the few”.

Jade shot to fame in 2011 alongside Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson and Leigh-Anne Pinnock as Little Mix became the first band to win the X-Factor.

The 26-year-old, who celebrates her birthday on Boxing Day, makes frequent visits back home to Shields and recently opened cocktail bar Red Door in Ocean Road.

She also takes part in the annual Boxing Day Dip for charity Cancer Connections, of which she is a patron, at Littlehaven.

Her post said: “I grew up knowing the importance of taking part in our society realising that we all have a choice and we all have a voice.

“I want to use my platform to encourage you to do the same and use your voice tomorrow in the General Election.

“Young people are less likely to vote but it’s so important that you do and have a say in the future of your country.

“Who you vote for is your decision, but whatever you do, make sure you use your vote.”

Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn thanked the singer for her solidary in a Tweet – and pledged that he and his colleagues will work “every day” for the many.

Jade’s statement added: “I will be voting Labour tomorrow for many reasons but firstly because I believe in their manifesto.

“Coming from a working-class background, I know it’s important that we have a government which supports everyone and not the few.

“We need to save our NHS. Labour believes in funding the arts.

“They support the fight against climate change. Their manifesto supports equality and the LGBT community.

“Whoever and however you vote tomorrow, be proud of your choice and use your voice.”
