Former UK Independence Party and Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage will host an evening at The Point in Park Lane on Friday, September 3.

Sunderland became synonymous with the UK’s decision to leave the European Union in June 2016’s referendum.

Although the city’s Leave vote was not the highest in the country, the early result was the first indication that the polls which had been predicting a narrow but decisive win for the Remain campaign had got it wrong.

So linked with Brexit did Sunderland become that Nigel Farage chose the city to launch his March to Leave in 2019 and the Brexit Party staged a rally at Rainton Arena ahead of the General Election later that year.

Tickets for September’s evening – dubbed Life in the Farage Lane – start at £26.65, while VIP tickets, which include a chance to have your photo taken with the man himself are £49.75.

A strictly limited number of gold tickets, which include a meal with Mr Farage, a signed item and a photo, are available priced at £209.25. Prices include booking fee.

Point boss Tony Griffiths said the event was very much an evening of stories about Mr Farage’s life and political career and not a party rally.

"He will be doing a bit of talking about his working life and his political life and what he is up to now.

"It is not a political tour as such, so hopefully people won’t try to close us down,” he joked.

"I think he has got a lot of support here and I think he will fill the place. Hopefully he will tell us some stories about Donald Trump.”

The Point has recently undergone a £100,000 revamp to move away from its nightclub roots and Tony said there would be plenty more well-known names to come.

"We have been trying to get high-profile people to come to Sunderland,” he said.

"We have spent a lot of money on The Point and we have turned it into an event auditorium. We want people who will put bums on seats.”
