Voters are due to head to polling stations on Thursday, May 6, to re-elect or replace the holders of 28 seats on Sunderland City Council.
Here are the candidates bidding for the prize in Hetton.
5. David William GEDDIS (Independent)
If elected to the city council I will continue to stand up for what I believe to be in the best interests of the area.
I will be very vocal in my stand against anti-social behaviour which our area is suffering from, even if this is not popular with other town and city councillors.
I am determined to bring back safety and security to those living on streets and estates who are constantly suffering from this blight and who receive little or no help.
I am currently supporting the Save Hetton Nursery petition.
I am against the overdevelopment of areas of green space.
I will continue to scrutinise the expenditure of our council tax by Sunderland City Council and question the reduction in services, such as street cleaning, fly tipping, police and youth disorder.
If elected I will serve the residents and community groups in this area above any political affiliations or loyalties. Photo: UGC
6. Rachel Louise LOWE (Green Party)
It often feels as if Hetton is an afterthought to our council with the views of residents ignored and vital services cut even as council taxes rise.
If I am elected, I will work hard to represent you in the council chamber.
I will focus on action that will improve the lives of residents including tackling fly-tipping and maintaining parks.
I will argue for better public transport and support for locally owned businesses as lockdown is eased.
I will also oppose the closure of Hetton-le-Hole nursery - a vital service.
