Voters are due to head to polling stations on Thursday, May 6, to re-elect or replace the holders of 28 seats on Sunderland City Council.
Here are the candidates bidding for the prize in Copt Hill, where two positions are up for grabs.
5. Esme Rose Stafford FEATHERSTONE (Green Party)
Green councillors are making a positive impact across the country and I believe I could make a big difference in Copt Hill.
We are not subject to party whips so I could always vote in your best interests.
Building back from Covid will need ambition and vision. I would push for Sunderland to be included in a trial of Universal Basic Income.
I will also campaign for better public transport links, services for young people and women, support for locally owned businesses and improvements to the efficiency of household waste collection and disposal.

6. Kevin JOHNSTON (Labour Party)
I am proud to have served as the councillor for the Copt Hill ward for the last 5 years.
It has been a privilege to represent and resolve issues for my home town.
I am extremely proud of my record of getting things done.
I have helped hundreds of residents and resolved thousands of issues in what has been a busy term.
I am positive and stand up for residents.
Alongside the community I have campaigned successfully on a number of issues, including developing Houghton Colliery site and the saving of our urgent care services.
It has been great to see the results of our hard work taking shape in the community we all love.
If re-elected standing alongside fellow candidate Tracy Dodds I will offer strong leadership.
I will carry on fighting for the Copt Hill community and pledge to work to bring further investment, improvements to Houghton. Photo: UGC

Ed Davey, leader of the Lib Dems, restates the aims of our party beginning with jobs and opportunities for all.
This party agrees with the right to peaceful protests.
A caring Leader and a caring party is in.
We want better policing that meets the needs of the community, safety first for our families and residents.
More money in the pockets of everyone.
Our children need a fair education system meeting the needs of all children and disadvantaged and disabled members of the community need to be acknowledged not penalised.
We need a greener future and support meeting low carbon targets and support green banks and green jobs.
The NHS’s needs are enormous and the party recognizes and supports these efforts and wants more for health care, social care and mental health.
Our defence forces need to be adequately resourced.
We want a peaceful world with human rights and democracy promoted.
