“Representatives of the town council will still lay wreaths as a mark of respect, but regrettably there can be no formal event for the public or other organisations.”
Bomber Command veteran Peter Warner, district chairman of the Fellowship of Services organisation, added: “It’s a real shame that the event can’t go ahead this year, but we do understand the need to follow official guidance to protect people from the risk of Covid-19.”
Hetton Town Council has suggested that individuals wishing to pay their respects should visit the war memorial at any time to reflect and lay their own tributes.
