Police warning after drugs stolen from Sunderland pharmacy

Police are warning against the dangers of taking medication after the burglary at the Million pharmacy in Hylton Road.

At around 8.26am this morning, police received a report of a break-in burglary in which a large quantity of prescribed medication was stolen. The burglary happened between 4.30am and 6am this morning and the following drugs and quantities were taken: - Morphine tablets - 1,000 MST Contrins / 900 Zomorph tablets - 560 Codeine tablets - 30 boxes Pregablin tablets - 500 Fentanyl patches - 800 Methylpheniclate tablets. - Oxycodone - 104 Oxycontin tablets / 300 Longtec tablets / Ocynorm injections - 4,800ml Methadone solution Around £600, three laptops and two computer base units were also stolen during the burglary. Extra officers are on patrol in the area to carry out enquiries and now police are warning the public about the dangers of taking this type of medication. Inspector Paul Whittle said: "We want to warn those responsible for this burglary, or anyone who finds the drugs, not to consume them under any circumstances. "These were prescription drugs and if taken in large quantities then they could have a serious affect on that person's health. "We would urge people not to buy or accept this type of medication if it is not specifically prescribed to them. "In the mean time, anyone with any information of the whereabouts of these drugs should call police so we can take them off the streets."The theft of these drugs is not linked in any way to the death of an 18-year-old woman in Newcastle earlier today.
