Fifty-one-year-old prostitute Julie Perigo was found stabbed to death in her blood-spattered flat in Kidderminster Road, Downhill, on May 23 1986.

The former stripper was discovered by police who broke in after her sister Pam became concerned.

Julie, who was last seen alive by a neighbour on Friday, May 16, died of shock and bleeding due to multiple stab wounds.

The double-divorcee was a former stripper who regularly advertised in sex contact magazines and told a friend on the last day she was seen that she was meeting a client at lunchtime.

This man has never been found.

And despite a nationwide hunt for the killer - with nearly 6,000 people interviewed , including an extensive list of clients found in her diaries - the murder remains unsolved.

Superintendent Christina Barrett, who leads on Northumbria Police’s historic case reviews, said the force had not given up hope of bringing Julie’s killer to justice.

“We continue to review and investigate unsolved murders and they are never closed,” she said.

“If new information is received or there are new forensic developments these are acted upon and followed as a line of enquiry.

“If anyone does have any information that could help with the investigation then we would ask they get in contact.”
