An inquest review into the death of Megan Bell, 17, from Seaham, heard a detective inspector from Police Scotland is set to send the document to coroner’s officers in County Durham.

Former St Anthony’s Catholic Girls’ Academy student Megan was at the music festival in Perthshire last July when she died.

A previous hearing at the coroner’s court in Crook heard tests had shown her death was caused by the adverse effects of methylenedioxymethylamphetamine (MDMA), which is commonly known as ecstasy.

Her family have said she was not a drug user.

At a short hearing at the same court today, coroner Andrew Tweddle heard inquiries are continuing.

He was told by one of his officers a detective inspector had been contacted on “numerous occasions” in regards to the report he was writing.

The court heard contact would be made to check up on its progress.

Mr Tweddle said: “This is an ongoing matter in Scotland and if we get the report from the detective inspector, it’s likely we will have a final file.

“I will leave this matter until April 3.

“It will be a bit clearer, one way or another, where we are.

“We will have to wait to find out what the authorities of Scotland are considering.”

Megan left dad Chris, 44, a car transporter driver, along with Lisa, 41, is also dad to Jenny, eight, and Maddy, 10, and brother Josh, 12.

A charity, Megan’s Rainbow Support Group, has been set up by her grandmother Jenny Bell, a Seaham and Durham County Councillor, and other family members, as well as friends as a lasting legacy to her memory.

It will work to offer bereavement counselling to those who have lost loved ones, after the Bells found families were having to face a wait of three weeks and a journey to Hartlepool to seek help.

It will also recruit people to act as listeners and offer group or one-to-one sessions.
