Luke O'Nien starred in Sunderland's draw with Charlton

Our Sunderland AFC writer, Phil Smith, has dished out his player ratings - and there's plenty of praise for goalscorer Luke O'Nien and the heroic Jon McLaughlin. Scroll down and click through the pages to see who shone - and struggled - for the Black Cats at Charlton:

Critical stop to deny Lyle Taylor when the striker looked to have scored. Won a point for his team. 7
By far his biggest test defensively and it was one he came through. Offered something in attack throughout and scored an outstanding volley. 7

Battled really well throughout the contest and gave little up. A very vocal presence during a difficult spell late on in the game. 6
Started really well but really struggled to contain Lyle Taylor thereafter. One of the best strikers in the league changed the game second half. 5
Unfortunate to chalk an own goal in the second half when he blocked Taylors cross. Had been brilliant in the first half, giving nothing away and sending some superb balls into the box. Assisted the goal but struggled after the break. 6
Did really well in a second half where Charlton took control of the game. Broke up the play at some important points. 6
Booked early on and struggled to dominate proceedings, but got through an awful lot of running and battled well. 6
So unlucky to see a driving effort smash the crossbar in the first half. Played his part in the first goal but couldnt make the most of some promising openings from wide areas. 6
Took the captains armband and initially looked set for an enjoyable afternoon as he found space on the left. Shooting was off and had very little impact in the latter stages. 5
No doubting his commitment. Lots of running and off-the-ball work in the first half. Like most of the team, found it very difficult to get into the game second half. 6
A difficult performance to assess. In the first half is off the ball contribution was brilliant but he missed three good openings to kill the game. Flagged in the second half. 6
A superb cameo that tilted the balance back in Sunderlands favour. Almost scored a famous winner in the dying moments when he turned a cross over the bar on his weaker foot. 7
Got his side up the pitch well and was a threat in the closing minutes. 6
