Castle Eden Dene volunteers can now offer three levels of walk on a Sunday. The walk levels offer the opportunity to build up fitness and provides walks on varied surfaces and terrain in and around the Dene. Walks start at 10am from Castle Eden Dene Lodge car park. The Thursday walks is at 10.30am from the car park. All are welcome

Officers and partners have engaged in a ‘mobile PACT’ in Peterlee Town Centre, centered on the recent hot spot area of Asda. Local youths and members of the public were spoken to in relation to recent problems.

Cotsford Junior School visited Horden Welfare Hall, to see the pantomime, Peter Pan. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the pantomime and would like to thank everyone involved in the production for inviting them to watch the show.

East Durham College’s veterinary care department will be holding a specialist one-day course to assist trainers with the teaching of veterinary nurse qualifications. The college will be running the City and Guilds Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) course for clinical coaches on Thursday,  February 25. The course is designed to prepare clinical coaches to help them to mentor their student veterinary nurses for the OSCE examinations. And cover all aspects of the City and Guilds Objective Structured Clinical Examination. This training can form part of clinical coach training for new clinical coaches; or those wanting to professionally update their knowledge and skills. The course will run from 9.30am until 3.30pm with full use of clinical equipment and real diagnostic specimens supplied, along with lunch and refreshments.

Horden Cricket Club is looking for junior cricketers, to play for the junior team. If you are interested, why not go along to Dene School, every Sunday from 2pm to 3pm. Two former East Durham College students, who are continuing to train with the colleges boxing club, have just signed contracts to turn pro. Lightweight Jay Hughes, 18, from Trimdon, and Light-middleweight Christopher Wallace, 26, from Peterlee, have both signed professional boxing contracts with Phil Jeffries, father of Olympic boxing medallist and former professional boxer, Tony Jeffries. The two fighters are former students at the college, with Jay leaving last year after studying on a sports course and Christopher leaving in 2006 after studying bricklaying. Signing these contracts means that the East Durham Boxing Club now has six members with pro contracts, as Christopher and Jay join fellow professionals, Glenn Foot, Jonson McClumpha, Warren Baister and Darren Richardson. Jay is now preparing for his debut pro fight at Houghton’s Rainton Meadow’s Arena on Saturday, March 5, with Christopher looking to schedule his first bout for later in the year.

Peterlee Walking Club organises graded walks each month for all abilities and transport is usually arranged by the club, leaving from Peterlee Lodge car park on Sunday at 8.30am. The next walk is this Sunday to Broom Park. For information, ring 0191 5863009.
