It’s the news that many students at Shotton Hall have been hoping to hear (and those who don’t like loud music, dancing and general mayhem have not) – The Young Americans are coming back to Shotton Hall on March 21-23.

East Durham College has launched a new short course in floristry, aimed at showing you some great tips and tricks to get the most out of flowers around your home. The Flowers for the Home course runs over three evenings and is designed for anyone interested in learning how to make flower arrangements around their home more eye-catching. The course will run on three consecutive Tuesdays, starting on April 19 from 6pm-8pm at the college’s Houghall Campus in Durham. Topics covered over will include basket arrangement, hand-tie in a vase and parallel arrangement. The cost of the course is £100 and includes all materials.

Peterlee Memorial Methodist Church runs a baby and toddler group on Wednesdays. Please come along take part in this lovely group. Coffee and tea is available for parents plus juice and biscuits for toddlers from 1pm-3pm, every Wednesday. Babies 50p under the age of 1 years and toddlers £1. For information, ring 0191 586 2525.

Hidden CCTV cameras captured Stephen Landers as he dragged a sofa and cushions out of the back of a car and fly-tipped them at Warren House Gill, in Horden, Magistrates in Peterlee fined Landers, 20, of Basingstoke Road, £300 and ordered him to pay £403 costs and a £30 victim surcharge after he pleaded guilty to fly-tipping. Household waste can be taken to the nearest household waste recycling centre and to arrange a bulky waste collection call 03000 261 000.

The secret is out as East Durham College’s creative industries team are set to hold a James Bond experience evening on Thursday, April 21. The night of entertainment will help raise money for Hartlepool Hospice. The formal evening at the Lubetkin Theatre will have a Casino Royale inspired theme, with gaming tables, entertainment from the creative industries department and food by the hospitality and catering students at the college’s Scene1 Restaurant. In the lead up to the event; a group of music students are also planning to visit the hospice to entertain residents.

St Bede’s Comprehensive School will be hosting an Anne Frank exhibition on Thursday between 4pm and 7pm. This will be an open event to which everybody in the local community is invited. Students will give guided tours and refreshments are available.
