An East Durham College engineering student has been honoured by one of the region’s top institutions at their annual gala dinner and student awards. The Northumbria branch of The Welding Institute has awarded student, Connor Duncan, 19, from Billingham, with its Student of the Year award, with another EDC student, Adisorn Khampan, 18, from Ingleby Barwick, receiving a runners-up award for his work this year. The pair received their prestigious awards at the branch’s 83rd Annual Dinner and Student Awards held at Newcastle’s Civic Centre. Both students are on engineering apprenticeships, studying their BTEC and NVQ courses at the college’s purpose built construction and engineering facility, The Technical Academy, based on Peterlee’s South West Industrial Estate. As part of their apprenticeships, Connor is employed by Durham-based Hope Construction and Adisorn works at Arlington Automotive, based in Newton Aycliffe.
Horden Youth & Community Centre are pleased to announce the theatrical production Blast from the Past will be held on Wednesday, 11 May at 2pm. Places are only £1, so book early. The Dogs Trust in partnership with Durham County Council are offering free microchipping on Monday 4 April from 11am to 2pm at Peterlee Leisure Centre. Dog chipping is compulsory from 6 April 2016.
East Durham College’s Technical Academy has hosted its 2016 Trade Day event. A wide range of companies from the construction, building and engineering industry attended the event to give demonstrations of their latest product innovations and new technology. The Technical Academy is located in a 30,000 sq ft purpose-built facility on Peterlee’s South West Industrial Estate. A wide range of courses in the construction industry are on offer at the site including motor vehicle, tiling, plumbing and heating, gas, electrical engineering and fitted interiors. Our Lady of the Rosary RCVA Primary School were delighted at the number of people who came along to the coffee morning and the generosity of our school community. The staggering amount that was raised was just over £600. A huge thank you to all who helped out either by baking or helping to serve the cakes and coffee.
