Staff at East Durham Homes raised over £250 at an Easter charity day held on March 24 to support Alzheimer's Society, which is the chosen charity for 2015/2016. To raise money staff held a raffle, tombola and a bake sale and casual dress day for a donation. East Durham Homes Managing Director Michael Doyle said: 'I would like to thank them all for helping to make the day a success. We have raised over £1,000 so far for this year's charity.'

Legs, Bums and Tums on Tuesdays from 5.30pm-6.30pm at East Durham Trust Community House (opp Royal Arms), £2.50 per session.

At the end of last term Cotsford Infants School said goodbye and good luck to teaching assistant Mrs Reilly, who left after 21 years of service to the school. Mrs Reilly has supported a huge number of children in a range of roles over the years and will be much missed.

Alison Scattergood, a talented East Durham College lecturer, has been named as a ‘Master Craftsman’ in the field of barbering by the Hair Council for her hard work and dedication to the education of barbering qualifications. Alison, from Peterlee, is proud to have had her work recognised by one of the country’s top hair and beauty institutions. Get energy efficiency advice, help with switching tariffs and supplier, you may be eligible for £140 discount on your winter energy bill and you may be eligible fora free boiler. Held every Wednesday from 10am-1pm with Claire.

East Durham Trust Keyboard Champions are funded through Comic Relief to provide free impartial advice to East Durham residents. It offers home visits and drop ins where people can come for general IT support or support to save money. All ages are welcome. East Durham College - Houghall Plant Centre is open to the public seven days a week. There is a wide selection of plants, most grown from seed, as well as gardening advice There is also the Secret Garden Coffee Shop.

The Mayor or Peterlee, Coun Mary Cartwright visited Durham Deafened Support offices in Peterlee. Although they have been in Peterlee for 18 years, many people still don’t know they are there. She heard about what they do in County Durham and Darlington. She showed a genuine interest and was concerned that that they were so little known. Mary is ending her term as Mayor next month and has promised to support DDS when she is finished. As Mayor, she will be at the offices on Tuesday, May 3, at 10am to open the beginning of Deaf Awareness week. Everyone is welcome to go along and see what’s available .

Celebrate International Dawn Chorus Day on Sunday at Castle Eden Dene National Nature Reserve. Rise early (5am start) and enjoy a guided walk around the Dene with a local bird expert to help you identify the different birdsong.
