Why not send the kids along to the kids club at Roseby Road Wellbeing Centre, every Wednesday from 4pm to 6pm. Sessions cost £1.50, which includes activities and a snack.

Peterlee Walking Club was established nearly 40 years ago and has organised, guided, graded walks every third Sunday in the month. Travel is arranged through a local bus company. Coach fare is £11 for non-members and £8 for members. Walks range from six miles up to 15 so you can choose which one is suitable for your level of fitness. Clothing appropriate for varying weather conditions should be worn. Sturdy, comfortable footwear, a backpack with packed lunch is needed. A change of footwear kept on the bus to change into is also needed. A wide area is covered for walks including North Yorkshire, Cumbria, Northumberland and Durham. There are also two weekend walks organised throughout the year and a summer evening walk in June plus a Boxing Day walk too. The age range of people who walk is from 20 to 80. Six talented health care students from East Durham College are making Apollo history as the first to graduate and go off to university and into the world of work. The group of girls, who have all achieved their full Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care, are thrilled with the offers they have been made. Students Courtney Lippett, 17, from Wingate, is going on to study adult nursing at Leeds University, Kirstie Stenson, 17, from Peterlee, will be studying education studies at Hull University, Shannon Fitches, 18, from Horden, will be studying a psychology degree at Teesside University and Shannon Wales, 17, from Peterlee, will be studying adult nursing at Northumbria University. The two other students will be taking up working roles, with Sammy Harbord, 18, from Peterlee, starting an apprenticeship at Steadfast Security and Stephanie Morrell, 18, from Hartlepool, going to join the Navy as an engineering technician.

An East Durham College student has become a champion kickboxer in just his second fight in the sport Rhys Smith, 15, from Peterlee, has won the World Traditional Kickboxing Association Intercontinental Junior Muay Thai Boxing Championship at 51kg weight. The WTKA Intercontinental Junior Championships took place at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in April. He has only been training in the sport for 18 months, with the event being his first experience of competitive fights. Rhys studies on the college’s 14-16 Engage course, and trains four days a week at Durham’s Unity Gym.
