Peterlee and Horden - Down Your Way

The Wednesday Working Group at Castle Eden Dene National Nature Reserve worked on continuing to place a border of Silver Birch trunks along the path from Gunners Pool Bridge. They improved their skills in driving, hammering and sawing. During the day a male deer was seen by Tony and David, a pair of squabbling wrens and a very inquisitive robin. Unfortunately, assessing the remaining patches of Balsam, the seeds are maturing rapidly. Members will be removing more Balsam next week

Cotsford Junior School was saddened to hear of the death of one of its governors, Gloria Turner, who was involved with the school for a number of years, before being elected onto the governing body in 2009. She was a regular visitor in school, often leading Thursday assembly and always had the welfare of pupils at heart.

Thirty-four Year 10 GCSE art and BTEC dance students from The Academy at Shotton Hall went on an action-packed three-day trip to London. They visited the National Gallery and the Tate Modern; the street performers in Covent Garden and a visit to the Pineapple Dance Studios; sightseeing included a trip to Downing Street, Buckingham Palace, a backstage tour of the Theatre Royal Drury Lane (the oldest theatre in London that still in use – and the most haunted) and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Drury Lane Theatre.
