Young photographer produces eerie album of images of Sunderland during lockdown

Hannah Naisbitt, 12, of Ryhope, was joined by her parents as she took a series of images of the city centre’s empty streets after dark.

Among the locations she photographed were The Bridges shopping centre, Blandford Street, Park Lane and the usually bustling bus station.

Hannah, a pupil at St Anthony’s Girls’ Catholic Academy, thought the lockdown would be a “perfect time” to take pictures.

Her dad, Michael, 46, who works in sales, added: “I am quite interested in photography and usually have a camera with me when we go out and about.

“So Hannah has gradually become more and more interested in photography and has inherited one of my cameras.

“With Sunderland being so quiet, we thought it was a good idea to go out and take some pictures of a piece of living history.

“I certainly think it is unusual for someone so young to be interested in photography like Hannah is.”

Hannah, her dad and mum, Lisa Short, 44, an office manager, usually have cameras ready to take pictures if they go out for day trips and are looking forward to returning to National Trust properties now that they are reopening following the easing of lockdown restrictions.

They also have them with them when they go for walks locally to places such as Ryhope Beach.
