Women and children flee Sunderland house after bedroom blaze breaks out
A woman and three children fled a house after a fire broke out in the bedroom of a Wearside home.
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service has sent an appliance from Marley Park and another from Sunderland Central to Reading Road in Hylton Red House in Sunderland.
Two teams of four firefighters were sent to the scene just after 4pm today, Friday, January 10.
The fire started in a drawer in the bedroom of the home, with the woman and three children clearing the house after they were alerted to the blaze by a smoke alarm.
A man who also lives there was out at the time of the call out.
A burned mattress was removed from the inside of the house in the wake of the fire.
The fire service has said the cause of the incident is not yet known.
