When Sunderland garden centres will reopen after lockdown measures relaxed

After weeks of being closed to the public, garden centres across the country will be allowed to reopen on Wednesday, May 13.

In an address to the nation on Sunday, May 10, Prime Minister Boris Johnson also announced a plan to further reduce the restrictions, saying that if the circumstances were right, schools and some shops would be able to open next month, with the government “actively encouraging” people to return to work if they cannot work from home.

We contacted garden centres across Wearside to find out if they will be among the first to reopen and when:

Clay's Garden Centre on Peel Retail Park, Spire Road, Washington

It has has confirmed it will be open on Wednesday, from 9am to 5.30pm.

Emily’s Nurseries in Leechmere Industrial Estate, Wellmere Road, Sunderland

It will be open on Wednesday, from 8am to 5pm.

Grange Garden Centre, Thompson Road, Sunderland

It will be open on Thursday, May 14, from 10am to 5pm, with new deliveries expected to arrive on Wednesday in time for its opening.

Thoburn's Plants, Trees & Shrubs, Wear Street, Hendon, Sunderland

It will be open on Wednesday, from 9am to 5pm.

Elm Tree Farm Garden Nursery & Tearoom, Washington Road, Washington

The garden centre only will be open on Wednesday from 10am. Any changes in time will be announced on its Facebook page.

Bishopwearmouth Co-operative Garden Centre, Chester Road, Sunderland

It is expected to reopen soon but a date and time has yet to be confirmed.
