The “rule of six” came into effect in England, Scotland and Wales on Monday September 14, but Slimming World are reassuring residents their classes are still able to run in the community despite the new rules.

After five months of virtual classes, Slimming World returned to physical classes in August and were concerned they would have to put a stop to sessions after the announcement from Boris Johnson introducing new rules, but are able to continue due to being a business.

Classes are able to continue with a maximum number of 30, following all relevant social distancing guidelines.

Team developer at Slimming World Washington, Katherine Mason, said: “The news that was revealed to ban gatherings of more than six people made hearts sink, but luckily Slimming World is a corporate business and has already undertaken risk assessments and put safety measures in place, to ensure Consultants and members are safe.

“Whilst the tighter guidance announced means that some social activities are limited, I want to reassure everyone that our groups are still running in the community.”

During lockdown, Slimming World held virtual sessions in Sunderland and Washington for over 600 residents, supporting them to continue to improve their health while staying at home.

Since returning to physical classes, new safety measures have been introduced including wearing face coverings, weighing with shoes, and deep cleans in between sessions.
