Police were called to Essington Way, in Peterlee just before 4.10am today, Wednesday May 12 following reports that two loose horses were wandering around the village.

Video footage was captured of the two horses in Peterlee this morning with their rope dragging along the road.

Officers moved both the horses into a nearby field and are making enquiries to locate their owner.

Concerned motorists took to social media to alert residents after spotting the wandering animals.

A Durham Constabulary spokesperson said: “Police were called just before 4.10am today (May 12) to reports of two horses running loose on Essington Way, in Peterlee.

“Officers moved the horses into a nearby field and are making enquiries to locate their owner.”
