Washington Santa run raises more than £1000 thanks to biggest ever turnout

A festive run which saw an army of Santas hurtling through the streets has raised more than £1,000 for charity.

Washington’s fifth annual Santa Run, which took place last weekend, has raised £1200 for autism support charity Jigsaw, which is based in the town.

The run started at Biddick Academy, went through Concord and finished in Washington Village and saw Santas, elves, Despicable Me minions and even Hartlepool United mascot H’Angus the monkey take part in the course

Washington Running Club Secretary, Anthony Foster, said: “It was pretty icy so we had to take it steady but it was bright and sunny and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

“We received amazing support from the people of Washington throughout the entire course.

“At least one of out members benefits from the work Jigsaw does which is why we chose to support the charity with this event.

All the money raised from the event will be going to Jigsaw, which focuses on providing support for children with autism and their families.

The club gives the children the opportunity to play and socialise in a safe environment with children who have similar needs.

Washington Running Club started their Santa run in 2015 with a small amount of club members taking part and it has continued to grow each year with more and more people joining the run and the Washington community getting
