Sunday league team Washington Sky Lounge FC raised £6660 for Sunderland-based charity 4Louis, with members of the club running or walking 5km to raise funds.

It came after the club was forced to cancel its annual 5km fundraising event due to COVID-19.

The challenge, which saw 40 participants from club players to committee members, was done to support the local charity during difficult times and thank them for the work they have been doing.

4Louis, which supports families through miscarriages, stillbirths and child loss, is a cause close to the club's heart, and after hearing their 5k run had been cancelled, the team were determined to do something.

Club Secretary, Dan Tolbot, said: “After we heard the 4Louis 5km Run had been cancelled, our manager Alan Oliver suggested that we could create our own club event in aid of 4Louis. It was clear very early that all the club members wanted to get involved and help raise both money and awareness for 4Louis.

“It's extremely important to support charities at the moment. Through challenging times, many have shown great courage and character to come together and support each other.”
