Mickey’s Place, at St Michael’s Church in Sulgrave, Washington, launched in May 2020 and has been praised by the ward councillor, Jill Fletcher, for supporting the community during uncertain times and giving out thousands of free hot meals.

During the height of the national lockdown, Mickey’s place was giving away 150 free hot meals a day, and as support for the community hub grew, they gave away over 3000 meals to vulnerable residents during the summer six weeks holiday.

As well as acting as a pay as you feel cafe, Mickey’s Place has become a community hub for residents, offering food packages, counselling, advice and support for those in need.

Washington North ward Cllr Jill Fletcher has heaped praise on the work being done by the cafe, and has even been volunteering herself, in the Mickey’s Place kitchen.

She said: “The work being done by everyone at Mickey’s Place is just brilliant to see. We’ve had huge support from within the community. People are really coming together and helping each other.

“Places like this are really, really important, especially now more than ever. We want to support the community through these difficult times and beyond.”
