Two Sunderland men dress up and walk 17 miles to raise money for Movember

Two men from Sunderland will be dressing up and walking 17 miles to raise money and awareness for the men’s mental health charity in memory of a friend who took his own life.

Grant Edmundson and Adam Smith, both from Sunderland, are walking 17 miles from South Shields to Seaham on Saturday, November 28 to raise money for Movember after a close friend took his own life.

The pair will be dressing up as Freddie Mercury and Geri Halliwell to complete the 17 mile trek as well as growing moustaches to raise funds for the Movember charity.

Grant said: “This charity is one that’s close to our hearts as a close friend committed suicide so we wanted to raise money for a really deserving cause.

"Men’s mental health isn’t something people really talk about, so we just want to raise awareness.

"Me and Smithy have always grown moustaches for Movember but this year we wanted to push it further and raise more money."

The friends have raised £780 so far and plan to try and raise £1000 to give to the charity.

Grant added: “I said I would do the walk in heels if we reached a grand and we’re getting close so I am regretting that promise now!

"I am feeling pretty confident about the walk, and we can’t wait to raise as much money as possible for this great cause.”
