Tragic suicide of popular 18-year-old boxer Thomas Thompson from Seaham

The death of 18-year-old keen boxer Thomas Thompson from Seaham has been ruled as suicide, at an inquest.

Boxing and gym enthusiast Thomas Thompson of Ash Crescent in Parkside, Seaham, tragically died on Sunday, September 13, leaving his family devastated.

On Tuesday, December 15, Sunderland’s Assistant Coroner, David Place, confirmed a suicide verdict and said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Following the ruling, Mr Place offered his condolences to Thomas’ family who were in attendance.

He leaves behind dad Michael, 38, step-mum Stacie Gibson, 34, brother Ryan, 19, and two younger sisters, as well as his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Just two weeks before his death, Thomas had became an uncle after his sister, Billie-Jo, welcomed baby Bryleigh-Rose into the world.

Speaking after his death in September, step-mum Stacie told the Echo how loved Thomas was and thanked people for their support during the difficult time for the family.

She commented: “He was a cheeky chappie and it was just his smile, it just lit up a room.

"He was known as ‘Tom the Bomb’ and would joke he was the ‘hardest in Ash’, he was so funny.

"He just loved everybody and everybody loved Thomas.

"We want to thank everybody in Seaham, everyone has pulled together, and we have had so many flowers and cards, so we want to say thank you for the support, it has been unreal.

"He will be so very sadly missed.”
