This Sunderland football club aiming for the greatest ever comeback - and it isn't SAFC

Sunderland has been a one-club city since Sunderland Albion were dissolved in 1892, after a four-year existence during which time they did not get along with their neighbours Sunderland AFC.
Both were founded by the same man, Scottish school teacher James Allan who founded Sunderland Albion in 1879 after a falling out with SAFC.

All are supporters of Sunderland AFC, but feel that the city would benefit from a second club and hope to join a local league, but have ambitions beyond that.
They also want the club to help and represent the community.
The group are trying to lay firm foundations. They are seeking sponsorship and a ground, as well as recruiting players and other staff and they hope to kick off in the 2021-22 season and will play in white shirts and navy shorts, as did the original Sunderland Albion.

“It’s a massive part of the city’s history, although the club didn’t last long. It’s a real shame that it just died out. A bit heart-breaking really.
“I don’t see why there can’t be another club in Sunderland.
“We’ve been in conversation with the Wearside League. We could possibly start in the second division, which would be great, but we’re aiming for much higher. We’ve taken some inspiration from Sunderland RCA in the Northern League.
“Because of the name Sunderland Albion we’re getting great interest already. Because of that I believe we can move faster than most.

“We’re not doing this for the sake of it. We want to represent this city and help with local charities when we’re up and running.”
