Sunderland 'Til I Die creators Fulwell 73 confirmed as producers of Friends reunion special for HBO Max

A production company founded by lifelong Sunderland fans has confirmed it will be at the helm of a one-off reunion episode of famous US sitcom Friends.

The internet erupted as news of the show’s reunion broke on social media on Friday, February 21 – with Friends stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer confirming the news on Instagram with posts saying: “It’s happening”.

And the special episode, an unscripted special which will air on HBO’s streaming service HBO Max, will be brought to life by Fulwell 73, the company behind Netflix original series Sunderland ‘Til I Die.

Fulwell 73 confirmed the news on Twitter on Friday, with company partner Ben Winston posting about his excitement on Twitter.

His message said: “I couldn’t BE anymore excited to be directing and producing this friends special for HBO Max.

“It’s a big one for us at Fulwell 73 but we cannot wait!”

The company account added: “Friends’ Reunion Special Officially A Go At HBO Max With Cast Returning & we get to make it!”

Friends debuted in 1994 and ran for 10 seasons.

Speaking of the show’s success, Kevin Reilly, chief content officer of HBO Max, said: "It taps into an era when friends - and audiences - gathered together in real time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans."

The show’s six stars will also executive produce the one-off episode. It is not yet known when it will air.
