A team of regulars at the Jolly Potter pub in South Hylton have already raised over £600 to help Macmillan Cancer Support ahead of their darts marathon which is taking place tomorrow (November 23).

The pub’s darts team, led by landlady Leanne Geraldie, will be playing 12 hours of back to back matches at the pub after taking to the oche to throw their arrows at 9am and finishing at 9pm.

Macmillan provides specialist healthcare, information and financial support to patients and their families following a cancer diagnosis.

Leanne said: “Myself and my husband have family who’ve been through cancer as have many of the people taking part in the event.

“Most people have been effected in some way by cancer and have had the support of Macmillan and so we think it’s a great charity to raise money for.

“We recently set-up our darts and dominoes team and this event is a great way to get people together for an amazing cause.

“We’ve already raised over £600 and hopefully by the end of tomorrow (Saturday November 23) we will have hit our £1,000 target.”

The money has been raised via a sponsorship form on the bar as well as via the Macmillan fundraising webpage.

Leanne is hoping to collect additional funds at the pub during tomorrow’s event,

She added: “Anybody who wants to play, donate or just offer support is welcome to come down to the pub.

“There’s going to be some tired arms by the end of the day and I think we will be ready for a well deserved pint.”
