Sunderland man kept himself busy during pandemic by creating whole room paying homage to Elvis

Dave Murray came up with a way of keeping busy during the pandemic. He created this fantastic music room with Elvis always on his mind.

It has music covers of Elvis, pictures of The King on the wall and ceiling, a karaoke, and an animated Elvis as well.

Dave, who is also known as the Mackem Folk Singer, said: “I did it to keep busy in this awful time of the virus.”

Dave is no stranger to the headlines.

Just weeks ago, we told how he had built a whole music instrument – known as a cigar box guitar – out of pieces of junk.

But this time, he has gone even further and created a whole music room for himself and his family.

He did it, he said: “So I could have a place to rehearse in and play my music and write my new songs for a new folk album I'm writing called "Born On The Wear."

Dave has been creating Wearside music for years and we told last month how he had created a chant which he hoped would be taken up by Sunderland fans.

Now he has his own room to create even more music – and to listen to his favourite artist – but he admitted it wasn’t the only reason for creating the room.

“It has also been put together as a place for me and my family to meet and celebrate family events within government guidelines of course.

"My room is themed around my favourite singer Elvis Presley. I have collected memorabilia for over 40 years. It is a smashing little project for anybody to do.”

Dave built the room in five weeks and said family and friends love it.

"It has karaoke, a small bar area and much more but most of all it's our family safe place to site and chat through the winter months.

"I will also be doing live shows from it direct to Facebook and YouTube.”
