Sunderland care home pays tribute to colleague Jade Shovlin who died aged 21

Jade, who was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus in May this year, sadly died on Wednesday, August 12.

Tributes to the care worker from Roker have been paid by hundreds of people on social media and now the care home where she worked have paid tribute to her and said she brought so much happiness to the home.

Alison Hunter, manager at Falstone Manor said the job came naturally to Jade and that she will be sorely missed.

She said: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jade, who quickly became a much-loved member of the Falstone Manor family.

"She brought so much happiness and joy to our home and was a natural carer. Her bravery and hope throughout her illness was inspiring.

“She will be sorely missed by colleagues and residents alike, many of whom she had a special bond with. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time.”

Deanne spoke about how popular Jade was at the Roker care home and how she would always be happy to help people.

She said: “She has been a massive miss at the home since she had to stop working. All of the staff and residents loved her, loads of the residents would say Jade is their favourite carer.

“She would always go out of her way to help the staff, she would even come in on her days off or drive people home, even when her own journey wouldn’t take her that way.”

He commented: “RIP Jade flower, and thanks for being such a good laugh when you were looking after my Mam. Her family should be immensely proud of her.”
