The award-winning business, which makes bespoke wigs for cancer victims who have lost their hair through treatment, has opened a second salon.

The double Sunderland Echo Portfolio Award-winning venture has expanded into Newcastle, with the opening of its new outlet in Jesmond’s St George’s Terrace in Jesmond.

Beautician Nicola Wood founded The Wonderful Wig Company in 2017, inspired by her own experience with hair loss after being diagnosed with breast cancer: “It’s incredibly exciting to be opening a new salon in Newcastle,” she said.

“We’re known for starting in, and being based in, Sunderland and the success of that salon means we’ve been able to expand into Jesmond. Over the past year we’ve been seeing more and more clients from Newcastle, and so it made sense to have a base where people need us.”

The Wonderful Wig Company has already helped more 1,500 women through the Sunderland salon and aims to double its customer base in 2020, across the two salons and with an on-line store due to launch in the New Year.

The salon in Newcastle will also serve as a base for the charitable initiatives that have become a cornerstone of the organisation’s ethos, such as the Wig Bank – a way of providing wigs free of charge to those who need them most.

Unwanted wigs can be dropped off at the salon where the team will refurbish them and make them available for free. This is valued by those waiting for a wig prescription from the NHS which can take months.

“We’re taking appointments now for consultations in our Jesmond salon,” commented Nicola, “and we’re looking forward to having the same impact for our Newcastle clients as we have in Sunderland.”

Nicola is looking for someone to be the Face of The Wonderful Wig Company for 2020. The winner will receive four wigs, worth up to £8,000 as well as the opportunity to work with the award-winning business across the country. Visit http://wonderfulwigs.co.uk/competition/ to find out more.
