Six-year-old Sunderland girl gets eight inches of hair cut off to donate to children’s cancer charity

Lily McMurrough, aged six, underwent a charity haircut on Sunday, July 5 which saw her lose eight inches of hair so she can donate it to The Little Princess Trust.

The charity receives donations of hair which it then turns into wigs for children who have undergone cancer treatment.

Lily’s mum, Marie Pullan, has explained how her daughter was feeling before she had her haircut.

She said: “She was so nervous beforehand, we got to the hairdressers and her hair was put in a ponytail and cut off before being styled.

“Lily now loves her new hair and she is so proud of herself for doing it.”

The Year 1 pupil at St. Joesph’s school was so proud of her achievement that she took Saturday’s copy of the Echo into school to show all her teachers and friends her story.

Marie added: “I filled up when she was getting it cut, it was emotional. I don’t think she realises the impact of what she has done and how much it will help to change someone’s life.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for their support, especially Elizabeth Storey at 7oaks hairdressers for donating the haircut for free.”

Lily has also raised £435 for NHS staff and she will spend the money on making goodie-bags for them.
