The seaside, the people and the food: What Echo readers would miss most about Sunderland

From the beautiful coastline to the friendly locals and North East delicacies, you took to our Facebook page to share your favourite things about the city.

Here’s what you said on the Sunderland Echo Facebook page:

James Clark-Allan: “I miss the beaches and being close enough to have season tickets! I can’t make the midweek home games unfortunately.”

Mark Jennings: “Always nice seeing Penshaw Monument on horizon when I return.”

James Ferguson: “I moved from Sunderland 14 years ago. Sounds silly perhaps, but I miss the sea, the smell of the air and the sound of gulls! Not the gulls themselves, though!”

Claiire Wyatt: “I moved away for a year and had to come back, it's the people and community I missed most. We are definitely a much [more] friendly and welcoming region.”

Michael Mick Booth: “Moved away in 1985 when I joined up, always miss everything about my home town. The beach, the pier, the river, the people, the family. Visit as often as we can.”

Linda Gowans: “The people: family, neighbours, at church, and my Sunderland cottage. I moved here from down south 22 years ago - it's home now and has been good to me.”

Richy Winter: “I have moved away and moved back. I missed the seafront and beaches.”

Paul Dobson: “Moved away in 1991 … apart from my family, the things I miss most are the friendliness of the people and the great beaches!”

Tom Dent: “Have lived away for a few years, miss the sea, saveloy dips, pub, and pork pies.”

Paula Walton Galvin: “I moved away 28 years ago to Glasgow. I miss the seafront the most, followed closely by pease pudding. The North East humour is second to none.”

Alan Fosberry: “First, the amazing people I've met. The Sunderland Empire, Herrington County Park, the scenic coastlines at Roker and Seaburn, match day at the Stadium of Light and last but not least, an ice cold pint in Chaplins!”
