Police arrest man carrying blade at Seaburn Metro Station following concerns for his welfare

Officers arrested a 44-year-old man after emergency services were called to reports of concern for a man at Seaburn Metro Station in the early hours of this morning.

British Transport Police (BTP) were called to Seaburn Metro Station in Sunderland at 12.52am this morning, Friday, May 21 following reports of concern for a person.

Officers arrested a 44-year-old man for trespass on the railway, possession of a bladed article and possession of a class B drug.

The North East Ambulance Service also attended but was stood down at the scene.

An North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called just before 1am this morning to reports of concern for a person at Seaburn Metro Station.

"We sent two hazardous response team but stood down at the scene. We did not take anybody to hospital.”

Tyne and Wear Metro services, which are operated by Nexus, ran as normal this morning following the incident.
