In pictures: Visions of Sunderland in 2030 as part of £100 million Riverside Sunderland Masterplan
More images have been released to show how Sunderland could be transformed over the next decade by the Sunderland City Council-led Riverside Sunderland Masterplan.
The latest illustrations visualise a multi-storey car park complete with 650 spaces and a “living wall” showcasing the city’s heritage. With up to 10,000 jobs and 1,000 new homes planned as part of the £100m-plus project, here is a glimpse at how artists believe Sunderland will look by 2030. You can also tour past and present visions of Wearside’s future here.

One of the bridges will take fans on foot between the city centre and Sunderland football club's Stadium of Light ground. Council leader Graeme Miller said: “A direct footbridge into the vicinity of the Stadium of Light will be a fantastic addition to the city."
