A litter of puppies are beginning their journey to become crime-fighting police pooches after a regime of tough training.

Northumbria Police introduced its newest litter of recruits to families on social media – and on Wednesday, April 15 revealed that the dogs have now embarked on the first step of their careers with the force.

The mix of Dutch Herder and Belgian Mallinois pups, who will now be known as litter A, were born and bred in the region, and moved in with their handlers at the end of the Easter weekend.

Following in the paw prints of their dad PD Tag, who serves as a General Purpose Police Dog, the new recruits will begin familiarisation training while they settle into their new homes.

And the force has promised followers regular pup-dates on its social media channels (@northumbriapol) as the animals get to grips with different aspects of life as trainee police dogs.
