Man's body found in Sunderland house as police investigate 'unexplained’ death

The body of a 45-year-old man has been found in a house in Sunderland as police launch an investigation into the ‘unexplained’ death.

Emergency services have been at the scene in Lumley Street, Millfield, over the weekend after police were initially called at 5.10pm on Friday, February 28.

Sadly a 45-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and his death is being treated as unexplained.

Northumbria Police says the sudden death is an ‘isolated incident’ and say there is no wider threat to the public.

Witnesses reported seeing police and forensic teams entering the house on Saturday, February 29.

An investigation is ongoing as police look to determine the circumstances around the man’s death and police remain at the scene on Sunday, March 1.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “At about 5.10pm on Friday police received a report of a body of a man inside an address on Lumley Street in Sunderland.

“Emergency services attended and upon their arrival a 45-year-old man was confirmed deceased at the scene.

“Enquiries into the circumstances around the death are ongoing and it is currently being treated as unexplained.

“Police have been in the area over the course of the weekend but this is an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the community.”

A North East Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to attend the address at 5.11pm on Friday. On arrival we were not needed and the matter is being dealt with by police.”
