James Bond legend Sir Sean Connery dies aged 90

Legendary James Bond actor Sir Sean Connery has died aged 90, his family have confirmed.

The actor was was the first to portray the iconic British secret agent on the big screen, appearing in the lead role in Dr. No.

Sir Sean went on to play the role of 007 seven times between 1962 and 1983 – a feat only matched by Roger Moore.

His acting career spanned over five decades during which he achieved an Oscar, two Bafta awards and three Golden Globes.

He was born in Edinburgh’s Fountainbridge area on August 25 1930, and celebrated his 90th birthday this year.

The elder of two boys, he left school at an early age and took his first job as a milkman, complete with horse-drawn cart.

At 16 he enlisted in the Royal Navy but was discharged three years later on medical grounds after suffering with a stomach ulcer.

He then set out on the path to become an actor, with his first major acting credit coming in 1957 for the British gangster film No Road Back.

The accolades continued to flood in for Connery and in 2006 he received the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award, during which he confirmed his retirement from acting – 50 years after this career began.

Connery is succeed by his son Jason and his wife, French artist Micheline Roquebrune.
