An investigation into the death of a 22-year-old man in Sunderland, which is being treated as ‘unexplained’ is ongoing, police have said.

Emergency services were called at 9.39am on Friday, December 3 to the Saltburn Road area of Sunderland where a 22-year-old man who, despite attempts to save his life, was confirmed as deceased.

Northumbria Police said it was treating the death as ‘unexplained’ as the investigation continues.

Officers have confirmed that specialist teams seen in Melsonby Court in Billingham was part of the investigation.

A Force spokesperson said: “At 9.39am on Friday (December 3) officers were called to the Saltburn Road area of Sunderland.

“Emergency services attended the scene and sadly found a 22-year-old man who, despite attempts to save his life, was confirmed as deceased. His death is currently being treated as unexplained.

“An investigation is ongoing into the circumstances surrounding his death.”
