The sun shone down on Herrington Country Park as tens of thousands danced the night away for the first day of BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend.
Against the backdrop of Penshaw Monument, we saw homegrown talent like Sorley performing a slick set on the BBC Introducing stage and a red and white army singalong to L.P Rhythm in the dance tent.
Also on the new music stage, there was an incredible energy and production from fellow North East act Patrick Topping who was Danny Howard’s surprise guest - the buzz of that tent will be hard to beat!
After a sun-drenched day, headliner Fatboy Slim took us all down memory lane with a big showstopper of a set filled with confetti and classics like Praise You and Right Here Right Now.
The festival continues today with Sunderland sets from Swindled and Tom A.Smith, headliner Zara Larsson and many more.
You can watch / listen to all of the sets on iPlayer and BBC Sounds for the next 30 days.
