'I am very proud' - Lioness Jill Scott raffles England match shirts in aid of City Hospitals Sunderland charity

The Manchester City midfielder has pledged to raffle off eight of her England match shirts – which have been signed – to the public in a bid to support City Hospitals Sunderland.

On her JustGiving page, Scott told supporters that "there is no greater honour” than to represent her country on the pitch; but that her “treasured” England shirts can hopefully help in raising much-needed funds for those working on the NHS front line at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

She added: “My Lionesses England shirts mean the world to me; there is no greater honour in football than to represent my country.

“But at this difficult time our beloved NHS - and all those working tirelessly to help others - represent the very best of our country.”

So far, more than £6,400 has been raised in support of the auction, with Scott expected to draw the raffle on Monday, May 18.

The footballer’s sister Amanda Wilson, who runs Wessington Way Tyres alongside her husband, spoke of her pride in everything Scott does.

She told the Echo: “I’m very proud of her. Doing something to make a difference in these hard times.”

Scott, who was given an MBE in the 2020 New Year Honours for services to women's football, began her senior career at Sunderland Women before moving on to Everton.

She signed for Manchester City in 2014.
