How you can remember those who have died during coronavirus pandemic after Clap for Carers applause

Karlie Davis, who works as an auxiliary nurse for the South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, is calling on families to take a moment to pay their respects to those who have lost their lives during the Covid-19 outbreak in the wake of putting their hands together for the NHS.

The Clap for Carers initiative is taking place across the nation every Thursday at 8pm, with people taking to their front doors and back gardens to clap, bang pans and show their appreciation for key workers across every industry and their invaluable work.

But Karlie, who has worked at South Tyneside District Hospital for 15 years, would like people to also remember those who have died during the outbreak.

She said: “It’s great that everyone is appreciating what we are doing, but there are a lot of people dying and they can’t be with their families.

“Out of respect, we should do a minute’s silence.”

The move has been backed by Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, Area Manager Phil Clark added: “This is a very difficult time for those in our communities who have lost loved ones and who may not have been able to say goodbye, or to mark their passing by attending their funeral.

“TWFRS will stand alongside our partners to support tributes and pay respect to those who have lost their lives from the pandemic.”
