The special service was recorded at Sunderland Crematorium.

Although a memorial service could not take place in person due to Covid-19, it is hoped that Sunderland residents will watch online and pay tribute to loved ones by lighting a candle at home.

The service will be led by council leader Councillor Graema Miller and Reverend Chris Howson, with contributions from Celebrants Chris May and Debbie Green.

Councillor Graeme Miller, Leader of Sunderland City Council, said: “As we head towards Christmas and the end of the year it is a time when people reflect and remember, and for anyone who has lost a loved one it is a particularly important time.

“I hope it will bring some comfort and an opportunity to reflect.”

Those wanting to watch the memorial can do so from 6pm by visiting https://www.youtube.com/sunderlandgov.

The recording of the special service will also be shared via the council’s social media platforms on Sunderland UK Facebook and Twitter at @SunderlandUK.
