It might feel like the coronavirus crisis has put the whole world on pause – but, even in days like these, life continues. There’s no doubt the landscape of Sunderland has been changed in that time – with near-empty streets and shuttered businesses. But that’s only part of the story, as our 15 photos from the last 50 days show.
1. Thanking the NHS
One thing no one can have missed is the number of tributes to our NHS workers that have been created around the city - including this one, snapped on Marine Walk, Roker. Photo: JPIMedia
2. Weekly shop
A trip out for groceries has changed for the foreseeable future, with queues, social distancing, and limits on numbers of customers enforced at supermarkets, such as the Seaburn branch of Morrisons. Photo: Stu Norton
3. Pride in care workers
Staff at Sunderland Royal Hospital, who every Thursday at 8pm have been joining in with people on their doorsteps all around the country to applaud the NHS. Remember though, these events are for hospital staff, and the safest way to join in with the applause is to do it from your own home. Photo: Stu Norton
4. Creative calling
One kind of 'gathering' that's been taking place a lot more in the last couple of months is the video call. Easington Colliery Brass band got especially creative, playing all their instruments separately and then editing it into one seamless performance. Photo: Submitted
