Historic village show announces 2026 date as revived event goes from strength to strength
The show in its present form is 26 years old - but its roots go back over a century.
An historic show which celebrates the colourful produce, clubs and societies of the Herringtons has announced its 2026 date.

One of the biggest events in the Herrington area calendar, Herrington Village Show, returns on Saturday, September 5 at Scout HQ in Crow Lane, Middle Herrington.
The show which goes well back to the early 20th century goes from strength to strength.
Originally a horticultural event it evolved over 25 years ago into a broader village show with cookery, craft, flower arranging, photographic and children’s sections.
Show director Les Scott said: “We bring together the various groups and societies within our community and keep the village show tradition alive. With over £1000 in prizemoney the show is more generous than many other larger agricultural events.
“My particular interest is the horticulture which I sponsor. The tray of 5 vegetables attracts a first prize of £150 and there is a £100 prize for the heaviest onion. This is a section for the top growers but there is plenty of opportunity for the amateur gardener.

“We welcome new exhibitors and the cookery section has seen the greatest expansion in recent years as baking has made a revival. The ultimate chocolate cake carries a first prize of £50.”
Other highlights include the children’s section, with a guaranteed prize of £5. The Lego model this year needs to depict a Sunderland landmark for a first prize of £20.
The show is open to everyone. Benching starts on the Friday night at 6pm and until 12 noon on the Saturday with the show opening to the public at 2pm.
Schedules can be requested from the show director and are available from retail outlets around the Board Inn.
