Cris, 62 from Ryhope explained why she decided to set up the page to help support the owner.

She said: “Macy has already had one operation and is going to need more.

“She is in a bad way but there is a glimmer of hope, I’m just hoping that we can raise some money to help out with the vet costs.

“At the moment, she is receiving specialist treatment and is being monitored 24-hours a day.”

So far, the fundraiser has managed to raise £185 of its £200 target and Cris isn’t surprised that people have wanted to help.

She added: “I’m not shocked by the support, Ryhope has a great community.

“The owner has said she doesn’t want anything, she just wants people to pray and send positivity.

“Any money raised that doesn’t get used will be donated to charity. I believe the owner is thinking about the Dogs Trust.”
