One brave member of the public then waded in to the water and helped pull the dog from the water just before officers arrived at the scene.

PC Steven Hackett added: “We are immensely grateful to every member of the public who stopped to help this morning and especially grateful to the early morning commuter who braved the cold to rescue the dog.”
